Beverly Hills 90210 Revival Lands At Fox With Original Cast Members And A Surprise Twist

Beverly Hills 90210 fans can rejoice the gang is getting back together this summer!

The original show, which ran from 1990-2000, helped move the Fox network into the big leagues. Thanks to the success of the teen drama, the network became a serious contender with ABC, CBS, and NBC back in the day.

After almost 19 years off the air, Beverly Hills 90210 will once again call Fox home. It was announced today that the network has picked up the revival for a six-episode event. Original cast members Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling have all signed on to do the show. Luke Perry and Shannon Doherty are not on board but Entertainment Weekly is reporting the door is always open for them to come back.

The revival isn’t going to be quite what fans had envisioned. Instead of reprising the roles that made the entire cast household names, they are going to essentially play themselves. Fox has released an official description of the show so that viewers know what to expect this summer.

“The core cast will all play heightened versions of themselves in a brand-new serialized drama, with a healthy dose of irreverence that is inspired by their real lives and relationships. Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian, and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it’s time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself,” stated the Fox press release.

Fans won’t see Donna, David, Kelly, Brandon, Andrea, and Steve back in the fabulous Beverly Hills hood. Instead, it is more of a behind the scenes drama about getting the reboot off the ground.

Remember Tori Spelling’s short-lived comedy NoTORIous? The revival seems like of like but with more drama. It is an intriguing idea. However, viewers are going to have to watch it with an opened mind for sure.

The entire cast is excited to be returning to the famous zip code. Instagram has been flooded with messages from the cast promoting the event, as well as sharing how thrilled they are to be back together.
